For third-year optometry students at Waterloo, the Frame Ceremony marks the moment training turns outward: from lectures and labs to patients and clinics. OSI was there to mark it.
Repping our Vision Entrepreneur program, we gifted each student a set of frames. Fitted and ready to wear, they signaled clarity in the path ahead—and into a broader professional community ready to support them.
But the evening wasn't about keepsakes. It was about access. At this stage, most students have had limited exposure to independent clinic ownership. That gap is what the night aimed to address. To help, we were joined by practitioners who've opened doors, grown teams, mentored associates, and shaped clinics on their own terms.
OSI Member Dr. Michael Yee spoke about building a practice over time. His message: don't rush to define what kind of practitioner you'll be. Start working. Direction follows experience.
OSI Practice Advisors Jas Ryat and Bibi Kaushar Mosaheb followed, walking students through how independent clinics function, from day-to-day decisions to patient relationships to long-term growth.
Thank you to CAOS for their onsite support, and to Tura, Inc. for helping sustain an event built around informed entry into the profession.
